Satan’s old trick – counterfeiting worship of God

1 Kings 12:25-53

Counterfeit worship of God among God’s people is an old trick of the devil still in play today. He wants to make us think we’re truly worshiping God but actually aren’t. Satan’s ways in trying to attain his ultimate goal of securing worship away from Christ, just as was Jeroboam’s intention for example, are very vivid all through the Bible. Also look at the height of Satan’s temptation of Jesus – it centered around worship. ☠️

There is immense evidence through history of these tricks continuing in the ‘church’ and only Christians who want to obey what the Bible specifically says will be able to identify and point them out. Some of them are so obvious and common sensical but tradition, popularity and way of life prevents us from seeing them for what they really are.

One of satan’s all time biggest victories was merging pagan practices with those of today’s church. Read Ezekiel 8 for what God thinks. Then read Revelation 18:4 – “Come out of her, my people,’ so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues”. This means God knows true children of His are following some wrong practices in worship of Him and He’s calling them out of them, else…!

A little truth and a little lie and the brethren are deceived. It’s one of satan’s best tested and often successful trick. Same tactics used with Eve and Jesus. Jeroboam’s evil plan mixed lies with truth plus made it convenient; and being popular with the people, they wrongfully thought they were doing right by God.

Specifically there were idols and he tampered with God’s holy days. Basically he altered ‘how’ God had demanded worship from His children and these characteristics continue to reflect in satan’s ongoing deception. 😡 God does not give us a choice in how we are to worship Him (Deuteronomy 12:32). He only gives us a choice of whether we will worship Him according to the instructions He has given or not, and if we choose to worship Him we must do it in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

1 Kings 14:7-10 talks about how God dealt with Jeroboam and the Israelites…similar to Babylon and the disobedient in Revelation 18. Our only sure defence from these tricks today is “thus sayeth the Lord”…knowing what the Bible really says and obeying. James 4:17 – He who knows the truth but does otherwise, to him it’s counted as sin. 🙏🏾🙌🏾🙅🏾‍♂️😇
